ALCAZABA VILLAVIEJA

The largest and most important of the Shire, with 7.5 h ª extension, which corresponds to the former Al-Hisana, primitive walled town and administrative center of the deserted medieval taha. Highlights remains of a rectangular toreón built in mud, remains of the wall in different condition, cisterns, a raft, which could correspond to residues homes. Prior to the Arab settlement was Roman.

Immediate Villavieja, about 2'8 km. the S-SE of the center of population.

Cerro amesetado, which dominates the western part of the virgitana vega surrounded by neighborhoods with characteristic semiconcentrated habitat. Cerro on basic substrate and limestone outcrops with scrub like vegetation.

Condition

Many years ago on a rainfed crop shallow terracing so much of his remains are buried practiced. It is quite destroyed, but you can follow the route of the wall, as you are almost intact foundations.

Ethnological interest

In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries is the only town named "city" by Arab authors throughout the Middle Ages in the Shire. Moreover stand inside an amphitheater, wall paintings and several ponds.
